16th Boys Brigade Battalion

By Peter Whitcomb

Amongst my father's archives I came across this group portrait of the 16th Boys Brigade, taken in July 1959 at Stanford Avenue Methodist Church. I was in the Scouts at the same church, but with the help of Dave Jackson and Trevor Hill (who are featured in the photo) and my brother and I, we have managed to put a name to most of the battalion, from left to right:

Front row: Derek Ford, George Holkham, Bob Fryer, Richard Boggis (the minister), John Fryer, Richard Sinden.

Second row: ?, ?, ?, Maurice Bowles, Dave Jackson, Keith Eade, Dave Roland, Trevor Hill, ?, Rodney Billiness.

Third row: ?, ?, Peter Murrell, Richard Curd, ?, ?, Charlie Parkes, Mike Igglestone, Stewart Coblenz, ?, Bob Virgo.

Fourth row: not known

Back row: ?, Malcolm Grinyer, Howard Bowles, Peter Finch, Ivor Webb.

I hope this photo brings back memories, and if anyone can throw any light on others in the photograph please leave a comment. It may also be helpful if anyone can provide details on the special occasion - ie a shield in the foreground.

Just come across this picture while looking for something else, my two uncles, Bob and John Fryer either side of the minister.  Both sadly long gone now, my mother Margaret is the only surviving member of that family, due to the fact she has Alzheimer's  not able to throw any light on the occasion.  Their sister Marion Holmes only passed away earlier this year she probably would have had some idea, shame would love to know.
