Do you remember the 'Pelican'

Photographed in 1962/63

So what was the 'Pelican' which was on Kings Road, between Russell Street and West Street?

This photograph was taken just before demolition and from the state of the building - not before time.

The Pelican was a Taylor Walker pub, popular with people coming down from London. The other interesting fact about the photograph is that the estate agents on the left of the picture was used as a set in the 1960 film Jigsaw.

The film Jigsaw contains some great old footage of Brighton/Lewes and actually isn't that bad for an early 60s British film. It's just been released on DVD and you can get it on Amazon.
