The 1934 school picture contains my father, George Leiser, who had recently arrived from Berlin, where school for a boy with a Jewish father was already becoming difficult. He never spoke much about his refugee experience, but when he wrote his memoirs in the late 1980s, he reported that his experience of staff and pupils at Brighton and Hove School was almost completely positive.
