BHT Cycle Challenge

Volunteers cycled 5,380km

Homelessness charity, Brighton Housing Trust, has raised over £15,000 for its work with rough sleepers through First Base Day Centre. The fundraising challenge took place on Sunday 25th June at Preston Park Velodrome. More than 350 people cycled and volunteered on the day. The greatest distance cycled on the day was over 100 miles by Paul Bonnett from Bonnett’s Estate Agents.  Five year old, River Isaacs cycled five miles on her pink bicycle.

BHT chief executive, Andy Winter, said: “We didn’t make it around the world this year, but collectively we reached East Kazakhstan, which is 5,380km from Brighton and Hove.  More importantly, though, the money raised will provide support and services for rough sleepers, and enable us to help them off the streets”.

“So many people have gone that extra mile and we are grateful to everyone involved in this event, not least the cyclists, young and old, and our sponsors.  Our lead sponsor, G. Saunders and Sons deserve special mention for donating £3,000 which covered our costs of hosting this event.”
