Fun and free way to fundraise

Brighton Housing Trust’s Greater Brighton Cycle Challenge taking place on Sunday 1st July at Preston Park Velodrome, provides charities with a fun, free and easy way to raise funds. The event is principally being held to raise money for BHT’s day centre for homeless people, First Base, but ride participants can choose to attract sponsorship donations for any charity of their choice. The ride registration fee will go to First Base.  BHT has teamed up with The Living Coast, the Brighton & Lewes Downs UNESCO World Biosphere Region, to create the Greater Brighton Cycle Challenge comprising three exciting cycling experiences allowing for all levels of fitness.

All day family friendly day

Commencing at the Preston Park Velodrome at 7 am, this all day family-friendly event is open to the whole community and to people of all abilities who can ride as little or as much as they want.  Cyclists can take part in the ‘Around the World Challenge’ with the aim to collectively ride the distance around the world, 40,075km, in 12 hours. Family-fun entertainment will take place throughout the day, and designated slots will be run for families and cycle clubs. Alternatively, cyclists can enjoy the beauty of the local biosphere region, by cycling a 30 or 58-mile route along the coast and out to the South Downs, starting and finishing at the Velodrome.

Andy Winter, Chief Executive of BHT said: “We are extremely excited about running an even bigger and more exciting event this year.  We were overwhelmed by the support of over 350 people on the day.  Over £15,000 was raised to help people to move away from the streets and live independent and healthy lives.”
