  • Hi Richard! I knew you many years ago – I have a class pic somewhere from Coldean which I shall try to find. I knew Steve Verrall & was good friends with George Connolly for many years but lost contact. I was at Coldean from 1960-65 & in the infants in 1959 with Mrs Ayling. My form teacher was Mr Tomlinson.

  • Robert, I remember working with you at B.T. in the eighties. If I remember rightly you lived along Coldean Lane. I hope you are well!

  • Hi Richard, yes I was at BT for almost 40 years in the end & my Mum still lives in our house in Coldean Lane. From school days I am still in touch with Ray Pither and also my best mate from school Paul Halestrap. If you look at my Stanmer School page you will see our class photo with me back row left, Paul H centre & Ray to the right. John Ashley & many others are in the pic who you will probably remember.

  • Sadly, the Argus reported the passing of David ‘Ollie’ Orris. Apparently he died on January 8th. this year (2018). In the picture he is sitting fifth from left in the front row.

  • I remember some of these names, including Rob Tasker! Mr Tomlinson was my teacher when I joined the school. Tina Ballard was one of my chums, along with Zena, Dawn and others. I don’t seem to be in this pic though. But I have a couple of pics with us all in. Happy days!

  • Hi Jane. I am not in this particular class photo, I don’t seem to have one of Coldean only Stanmer. I remember Tina Ballard & her brother David, they lived at the top of Beatty Avenue, I think. I was also in Mr Tomlinsons class & remember it well along with Miss Locke, Miss Kerridge & Miss Williams who was always rather stern ! Not of course forgetting Mr Burrows. I was also there in Mrs Aylings class for pre 5 year olds & can remember the sand tanks etc we used to play with. Rather a long time ago now !

  • Should that be Mr. Tonkinson?

  • Rob, I’d forgotten that Tina had a brother, David. I do recall that the family emigrated to Australia at some point. I think the sand pit may be the space used for the swimming pool, do you remember? It was a raised pool made from a bright blue plastic of some kind and we were all very excited about using it the first time.

I’m still searching for old pics too. I know I have one or two school concert photos somewhere.

  • Hi Jane, yes I do remember the blue raised swimming pool being put up, although the excitement I remember was soon gone when I realised how cold it was ! I also remember the “indoor” garden in the main foyer where we used to plant spring bulbs and have little services there when they all came up. Odd the things you remember.

  • Gosh I remember all this. I am George Connolly and am in front row far right . Happy happy days at Coldean.

  • Hello George, good to see you have found the articles on here. There is all sorts of info about Coldean & Stanmer Schools etc. I remember your house in Wolseley Road well & your Honda 80. I chat from time to time with my cousin Trevor Dean about those days. Lost touch with Alan Coulthard & Stephen Marshall (Dillan) many years ago unfortunately – we all used to knock around on our bikes together (pedal & later motorbikes)

Hope you enjoy the various articles here!
