Stylish modern building

I started working at Jubilee Library in January 2009 and of all the places I have worked in Brighton and elsewhere, this has been the most enjoyable. It’s quite simply a beautiful, stylish modern building which fits in very well with its surroundings and has a real feeling of space and light.

A pleasurable place to work

Jubilee Library’s environmentally-friendly design has won 14 awards to date and is the fifth most popular library in the country. Having been a confirmed booklover from early childhood, I can’t think of a more pleasurable place to work. When not at my desk, I’m usually to be found on the Library’s upper floor where non-fiction stock is kept.

The Local History section

Local history, my section, is within the study area and is a constant source of interest, containing a wide range of books old and new on Brighton, Hove and Sussex history, including our own recently published New Encyclopaedia of Brighton by Rose Collis. The Tony Miller Reading Room is home to 45,000 rare books, an astonishingly large and precious resource for a public library, some of which date back to the 13th.century.

Always something going on

Jubilee Library and the Square outside are lively places to be and there’s always something going on. Children’s events are always popular and we have a busy programme of talks and film screenings as well as big events such as White Night in October. Come in and see what we have to offer!
