Could that be the Rev Wagner right beside the inscription? Seems to be wearing gaiters.
My great uncle was killed while serving with the Royal Sussex Regiment during the Boer War and his name appears on this monument. He was killed at Abrahams Kraal, SA and I still have the original hand written letter sent to my great grandmother from his commanding officer. His name was Private R. Pimm.
