St John the Baptist RC School

School Badge

By John Leach

This was the school badge of St John the Baptist junior school, and St John the Baptist secondary school, from the 1950s to the 1960s.

It has a Latin inscription " Credo ut intelligam" which, translated, means "I believe so that I may understand". This was the maxim of St Anselm of Canterbury who was Archbishop of Canterbury from 1093 to 1109.
