This picture seems earlier than 1983 to me as I had left by then but recognize Steve Atkins and Gary Blackman, but they look younger than I remember.
the picture was in the 1983 centinery book, but you were probably right, they used old photos, harry
Taken at Glynde camp. Not sure what year but c80, 81. I was there and have similar photos. One boy is Joey Duffy. On his shoulders is Matthew Hinton (son of Derek Hinton).
Please add that both Joey and Matthew were in the 4th Brighton Company.
My late father Ebenezer Charles Snelling – Charlie –
was in the 13th BB when he was a young lad, probably c 1910 —–. Does the company have any records that far back, I would love to see them?
When I was but a “lad”. I joined the 30th Brighton company who’s HQ was in the fairly new Carden School in Hollingbury. The captain was “Bumble” Griffin and there were 2 lieutenants – Les Harris (coal merchant) and a Mr Constable. We had a good Gymnastics team and once travelled to The Royal Albert Hall to perform. Among other members were : Brian Griffin, Rodney Potts, Brian Page, Don Burrell, Ken Smith. I have a photo taken at Glynde Camp, Sussex with Bumble leading and giving the salute. That would have been circa 1948.
