The grass dryer in Hollingbury

This photograph was taken in 1940 outside the grass dryer, which was situated between Roedale allotments and Hollingbury camp. Grass was dried so that it could be stored for animal feed.

My mother, Edna Pellett (nee Parker) is the centre land army girl.

  • As youngsters we used to play around the grass dryer (I lived in Larkfield Way). I remember that adjacent to the dryer building was what seemed to be a farmer’s scrapyard in what were the remains of an old ‘Pattison’ lorry.
