Hi Tom. At last you have a photo of me! It’s difficult to recognise people in their wet weather attire but I think that’s me fourth from right in the front row next to Evelyn Tierney. Are you second from right in the back row? We always went to Chessington Zoo because apart from one trip to the Isle of Wight I don’t think we ever went anywhere else! I do remember going on a pilgrimage to Aylesbury (I think!) which was something to do with St Simon Stock but the memory is very hazy. Is yours any better on that subject? Warm regards, Kathy.
Hi again Kathy. We must stop meeting like this! Yes I recognised you 4th from the right but I didn’t spot Evelyn. I was not 2nd from the right in the back row, that was Joe Storrow. I was 4th from the right in the front row. The two boys to the right of me were Ronnie Cavadasci and Patrick Hollingdale. I do remember the pilgrimage to Aylesbury but I don’t remember the reason for it. There can’t be many of those from St Josephs who can remember as many names as you and I have managed. Regards. Tom.

Sorry to be pedantic but the vehicle in the background is a coach, not a charabanc. Charabancs were generally open to the elements but sometimes had a canvas cover that could be pulled over in the event of rain. Having said that, my mother (born 1922) consistently referred to coaches as charabancs all her life.
Hi Tom, I thought that was what you meant! I was going to say was that you in the cap but you’ve answered the question! Are you watching the 1952 Show on BBC 1 at 9.15am all this week? It’s full of nostalgia for us oldies! Regards Kathy.
Hi Kathy. What oldies are you talking about? Who’s an oldie? I’m only 21, honest! In an earlier message you mentioned that your remembered my mother, which surprised me. On reflection, I remember my mother taking a liking to you. It was only years later that I realised why. You see my parents had a daughter some four years before me but she died at the age of two. I am the ninth girl from the left back row with a white bow in my hair and the fourth from the right in back is Vincent Brown. I know we went to Chessington Zoo a few times but I remember going to Bodiam Castle. They were great days.
