Innovative services to older people

The St John’s Centre & Café for those over the age of sixty have celebrated their 30th year of providing quality and innovative services to the older people of Brighton & Hove, by holding a garden party in the grounds of their premises in Palmeira Square, Hove this week.

Opened in 1982

The Centre was originally open in 1982 and has grown from a simple place for older people to come and have a cuppa, to what it is now in 2012 – a centre and café open to anyone over the age of sixty bursting with activities, day trips, and classes for older people to join in with.  Healthy and home cooked meals are available at the centre during the week, alongside a full café service.  Above all, new members are assured of a warm and friendly welcome.

Event opened by the Mayor

The Mayor of Brighton & Hove, Cllr Bill Randall, who was welcomed by Nicki Freeman the Manager, officially opened the event, and chatted to many of the older people that regularly use the range of facilities at the centre whilst enjoying some of the delicious home made refreshments on offer.
