1953 was the year of the Watney Combe Reid acquisition, hence the listing of some Watney beers, including the infamous Red Barrel.

Compared to today’s wonderful selection of real ales, these were absolute rubbish. Watney’s Red Barrel was the reason for the formation of CAMRA. I used to drink mainly Brown and Mild. In those days we considered this to be OK!
And not a drop of lager!
At these prices we could have got blind drunk on £1.
