Bristol Estate Community Room

The Community Room on the Bristol Estate is tucked in behind a high-rise block of flats. Unseen from the road it is the centre of the community for toddlers and kids groups, adult learning, parties and bingo. The room is in the middle of an improvement programme and will be more user friendly and useful on completion.

The surrounding area was a little neglected so Laura who lives in the tower block has decided to cultivate the garden. She has worked wonders throughout the summer digging and planting the steep bank by the room.

It also must have the best view of any community building.

  • I lived on this estate in the late sixties and I remember the community building and the shop where you could get sweets papers a few groceries etc. with the bus stop outside. The view from my block (I think was 6 floors) was fantastic. When I had my daughter in the Sussex County Hospital, I could see my flat from the window and wave across to my husband and son.

  • It is amazing to think that the views and buildings on the Bristol Estate don’t seem to have changed very much. Although there has been some building on the edges of the estate, the view I have is across the school field, and out towards the Marina
