“I like Newmarket Hill, near Kingston because from my house I can ride in 10 minutes out to the South Downs.

Newmarket Hill is the start of a ride that could take me to Southease, Firle, Barcombe or East Chiltington.

From here you can see Seaford Head, the Caburn and Lewes. It’s the start of all my fun with friends or on my own.”

  • Newmarket Hill and Kingston bring back some memories. A bike ride away from North Moulsecoomb on the way to almost Lewes. At times of the year when the apples were ripe, we’d ride to Kingston first to gather apples from the roadside trees before moving further on with our booty to the Downs. Strangely, the local inhabitants never seemed to mind our intrusion on their area for what amounted to scrumping. Are those trees still there bearing their fruit I wonder?
