Fantastic Christmas lights

I, Father Christmas, love Norwich Drive. Why? Because of the fantastic fairy lights.
Last year I saw a beautiful coloured house that looked like a rainbow from far away. As I flew nearer I saw fairies that glowed different colours. The house was covered with brilliant lights from roof to garden – and since I see everything, this year I have noticed that other families have tried their hardest to be just as fabulous.
It is lovely to see the cheery sight at lots of the houses that I visit. But nothing can beat ‘Fieldview’ – the house that I have been chatting about.

I have got to say that this is my neighbour and what they do to their house is amazing. It takes them a while to put them up and the kids love it. Come and see for yourselves in December!

I used to live in ND, and marvel at the totally OTT (which is a good thing!) efforts at this house, and others I have seen. Well done to all. My job takes me around Brighton a lot. Nothing even in Whitehawk, where whole streets go for it, can top this one!
I lived at 126 Norwich Drive from 1954 until I was married in 1969, with my Mum and Dad (who now live in Coronation Street). My memories of Lower Bevendean School and surronding areas are all good ones. We had lots of freedom back then and enjoyed the fields and woods which unfortunately the children of today are unable to do. There was no television; just lots of time to play and enjoy. I now live in Jevington Drive, which is only a short walk away. My husband and I very often take the dog and our three grandsons over the hill between Lower Bevendean and Higher Bevendean and then down to the little park. I hope people realize just how lucky they are to live so near to the Downs and yet not far from the city, and most of all take advantage of just that. When Bevendean School had its 50 year reunion, there were lots of faces that I hadn’t seen for quite a while and lots of good memories.
I do not remember seeing these when I lived there (many years ago) – but it’s the best set-up of all Brighton!
Just want to say I live a couple of doors down from this house and every year it doesn’t let us down! It gets better every year! Stunning!

I lived at 35 Norwich Drive. I moved there from East Moulscoomb about 1953. Bevendean Farm was still in existance then. I remember the workers concreting Norwich Drive and the gorse area further up. The back garden was pretty steep and chalky. Cattle used to graze right up to the wire fence, there was a pond on your left as you walked to Upper Bevendean, it never had any water in it as I recall. There was a very steep bank that over looked the pre-fabs below. As kids we used to slide down it on carboard in summer, even better in winter when snow was on the ground. We used to walk to school in Woodingdean, St John The Baptist.
I love driving past this house at Chrismas. Amazing!
Lived in Norwich Drive for 50 years. I have great memories.
I grew up on Norwich Drive in fact at number 135. The years that I lived there where fantastic. I was born in 1968 and moved to 135 Norwich Drive when I was five with my brother (who was 1 at the time) where we lived with my grandfather and mum until I moved away in 1992 – My mother (last name Capp) moved into 135 when they where first built as a young child and my great grandmother lived at 133 (her last name was Booth). I had many memorable summers playing in the corn fields behind the house.
I was born at number 17 Norfolk Drive; my brother & his wife still live in same house. I personally live in Kenilworth Close & have done for 20 years now. This house used to look amazing & the buses would stop so passengers could look at the lights, but alas the original people have now moved so there will be no beautiful lights this year. This estate is the best & always will be sadly though the focal point - the pub - has now gone & is an ugly block of flats……
I lived at 5 Kenilworth Close from around 1960 to 1962, then 7 Norwich Drive until around 1966. I remember playing in the fields behind the house at Norwich Drive, with friends, it was a safer world back then, and I remember there was a dried up dew pond there in those days.
I lived at no 2 Kennilworth Close for a lot of years – left in I think ’69 when I got married and went to Australia. I went to Moulsecoomb school so I would walk to school every day over the hills in the dip behind Norwich Drive. One day, on the way to school, I was playing with a ball and it went under a bush behind the houses and when I bent down to get it I found a live morter bomb – so a quick run home to get Mum to ring the cops!!
It is so nice to read peoples memories of living in Lower Bevendean. I too have very happy childhood memories of living there with my mum and dad, Fred and Irene Broom and my brother John. It was safe and we had a lot of freedom playing in the woods and around the shops on our bikes and scooters. We first lived at 84 Auckland Drive from about 1952, when the estate was still being built. I remember the mud!! Then around 1958-9, we moved to 121 Heathhill Avenue (just at the bottom of Norwich Drive) where I lived till I got married to Peter in 1967. My mum and dad lived there until 1996 when they moved up to Chester, where we now live. I worked in the sweetshop for Mr. Schofield when I was about 15 and my dad and I both used to work behind the bar at the White Admiral when Harry Burns and Roy and Joy Brockway were there. I was in the darts team, though I wasn’t much good! Sadly, my mum died in 2010 but my dad is still going strong at the grand old age of 96. My brother lives in Lincolnshire with his family. It would be great to hear from anyone who remembers us.
