  • I had no idea that the SS Brighton had been a indoor sea-water swimming pool. I skated there as a kid. I fell over one day and got soaked from head to foot, as if I had fallen into a swimming pool, and had to have my clothes dried in the boiler room before I could go home. Who else can remember that, when this ice rink was demolished, we were told that the Kingswest ice rink would be its replacement? Some replacement it turned out to be. The people of Brighton are still owed one full size ice rink and we want it.

  • When she was 4 years old, my wife Joyce Whitney was taken to this show by her oldest sister. Joyce determined there and then that was what she was going to do when she grew up. And she did, finishing up in the mid 60s with Holiday On Ice with her own speciality act. After appearing in some of the amateur shows at the S S Brighton Joyce started skating for Tom Arnold until she moved to Claude Langdon and Dennis productions at the Empress Hall. From there she toured in many European countries.
