This photograph shows the damage caused to the West Pier during a winter storm and a particularly high tide.
The beaches from the west side of the pier along to Hove were strewn with wood and items that had been wrenched from the pier including decking and other major parts of the pier.

I think it’s dreadful how the storm and the fire could ruin the West Pier.
Such a beautiful pier – worth rebuilding at any cost. Puts the Palace Pier to shame.
