  • I was 5 years of age in 1938 and lived in the basement flat, 26a Vernon Terrace. I was allowed to go to St Annes Well Gardens on my own and remember it as a lovely place. No danger to children in those days. Perhaps I should not say it, but the hangman’s noose was a great deterrent to nere do wells
