I missed an opportunity to save a valued piece of Rink history too. When my neighbour Mrs Williams died, her sister began to clear the house. Knowing that Mrs Williams had formerly been the Rink's pay clerk, after several days I plucked up the courage to ask her if she had found any Rink memorabilia. She said I was just too late for the dustmen had just taken the black sacks that had been standing outside for several days, and they contained the Rink's accounts where staff, performers and players had all signed for their weekly wages.
