In the late 40s when I was about 11, my Father who played the bass trombone in the band, persuaded me to join.  I was given a baritone and sat in the 2nd baritone chair where I stayed until circa 1954 when I went off to do my apprenticeship.  I recall a Doug Colwell who lived in Highview Avenue North and the conductor who was Albert xxxxxx  who was a compositer at newspaper printers in Lewes.  The band used to play in the bonfire procession at Lewes on bonfire nights.  As you can see by the above photo, the band still exists and I still play the tuba in The Home Guard Band  aged 79.
