In Aid of The Martlets Hospice

This month, Music Theatre 2000 have presented five performances of the Gilbert and Sullivan classic The Pirates of Penzance at the Barn Theatre in Southwick. Their run also included a special Champagne Gala in aid of the Martlets Hospice on Friday 11th July, which was attended by The Mayor of Brighton and Hove Councillor Garry Pelzter Dunn.  The Martlets Hospice is one of the Mayor’s charities during his year of office, so he was very pleased to support this event.

The show is directed and conducted by Brighton-born and based Simon Gray, founder and director of MT2000.   He is joined by top choreographer Carole Todd who lives in Hove and has directed and choreographed many West End musicals and major national touring productions.  The cast is made up from some of the very best local performers alongside experienced professionals all of whom are giving their time to support the Martlets Hospice.

The principals were: Darren Bennett as Frederic, Fenton Gray as the Pirate King, Barry Clark as the Major General, Antony Reed as Samuel, Karen Orchin as Mabel, Kate Stoner as Kate, Jodie Spencer as Edith, Andy Hutchison as Sergeant of Police and Liz Groves as Ruth.

Backed by a full supporting cast and band, this production of Pirates of Penzance was a highly entertaining evening of theatre.
