St Nicolas Church of England Junior School

Class photos circa 1951-54

By Sylvia Denman/Crowe

These are two photos from years circa 1952 and 1954 the first includes my sister Jeannette 1954. The other includes myself.

I hope they will be of interest to someone. I don't remember all of the names. One of the teachers was Mrs Wells, she was pretty scary! Do you recognise yourself?

These classes were a year before mine but in the top photo I recognise Rodney Way extreme left in third row back, and next to him Daphne Nicholls. Rod lived in Applesham Way (always tickled me that his surname matched his road) and Daphne's father, Jack, worked at my grandparents' laundry, Carlisle Laundry in Old Shoreham Road. Yes, Mrs Wells was a formidable character but with a very kind heart.

Great to see all these school photos. Yes Mrs.Wells was a terrific teacher also Mr.Ternouth, the headmaster. Do you remember Mr Bailey and Mr.Elder? please E mail me: I remember Bonny Cother so well as we met at a School reunion a few years ago.
