Decorated car at Brighton Carnival 1923.

In the early 1920s my grandfather Lawrie Sargeant was local agent for Western Electric loudspeakers; In connection with this he entered a decorated car in the 1923 Brighton Carnival which was held along The Esplanade and Madeira Drive. I thought you might like to see the photo. My grandmother Flo is in the car.

  • Great photo. It shows real style using a Rolls/Royce motor car. I wonder, would anyone nowadays dare to treat a new 2009 Rolls in such a way? The event drew a large crowd judging by the assembled gathering who would be waiting in eager anticipation for the parade to commence. It looks like Dukes Mound at the end of Madeira Drive.
