Emergency landing by aeroplane:17th May 1939

By Alan Smith

After reading what my brother Paul mentioned with regards to the landing of the plane back in 1939, I remembered seeing the pictures some years ago.

I searched through and have since located them. I hope this will bring back memories to those of you who remember this incident.

Be really interested to know who the people in the photo are - they could easily be my dad and his brother Robert 'Bob' and Jack Edwards on the right as they only lived just up the road at No 107 . Don't suppose anyone recognizes them?

Hi, I'm really keen to make contact with Alan Smith to see if he has the full paper that had this article in it in his collection? I work for Cinecity (The Brighton Film Festival) and we're recreating a set in The Nightingale Theatre based on Patrick Hamilton's novel Hangover Sqaure set in the summer of 1939. Would be great to have an original paper from the time, to scan and have as a prop! Please do get in touch. Best Wishs Sara Duffy Special Events Manager - Cinecity
